Marque Marriott, N7LWQ (or, as he called himself, "N7LW-Quack"), was known fondly in the Clatsop County, Oregon, area as "The Mouth of the Columbia River," and known in far wider areas by many in the worldwide Amateur Radio community. Marque, to many, was the true epitome of the gentleman Amateur Radio Operator — loved by virtually all he came in contact with, he was always there when someone needed him, on and off the radio, seemingly 24/7. Sadly, Marque became a Silent Key on May 14, 2008, after a prolonged illness — but even during his illness, radio was his life and his voice was still heard — he broadcast several times from his hospital bed using a system of handhelds through crossband vehicle repeaters linked back into his home repeater system, so he could talk to his friends. During this DX event In memory of him, several pieces of his former equipment purchased from his estate by other local Hams will be used, including his former HF rigs, a Yaesu FT1000-MP and a Kenwood TS-440, several antennas, and his CW keyer.

Special Event Callsign: "N7Q"

This picture gives the outline (in blue) of Maidenhead Grid Square CN76xf. The Grid Square CN76xf was chosen for its "rarity" — there are no permanent structures within it except a jetty viewing platform and a couple of restrooms, all part of Fort Stevens State Park; nor are there any fixed radio towers or transmitters. This makes it a rare catch indeed for those interested in getting their "Worked All Grids" awards. It was also chosen as it fits well with Marque's former nickname, "The Mouth of the Columbia River" — the South Jetty truly is, in another way, at the "Mouth of the Columbia River."
